Jason, you do realize that a "theory" is the highest status that a concept can achieve in science? A theory is not just a hunch, it is something that is rigorously researched with mountains of evidence to support it. With your reasoning, one could say that gravity is "just a theory". A theory accompanies a law or a fact. There is a FACT of evolution. It is a proven fact that lifeforms change over time. The Darwinian theory of evolution by natural selection explains that fact just as the Newtonian theory explains the Law of Gravity. A theory cannot become a law, at least not in scientific terms. You're basing your statement on the layman's interpretation of the word which is more akin to the scientific term "hypothesis".
