Some people claim that the US is a God-fearing Christian nation of church going believers, but what does actual polling show?
Here is what appears to be good news for these people:
God exists 79%
Atheist/Agnostic 21%
(God is smiling)
But how serious are these God believers?
Only 38% go to church regularly.
(God is now somewhat frowning)
How many people in the US believe in UFOs?
The answer is 50%. 50% of Americans believe in UFOs and only 38% go to church regularly.
(Now God is really frowning)
Here is some more interesting polling:
75% claimed to have experienced non-religious paranormal phenomena.
50% said they believe in ESP. More people believe in ESP than people who go to church regularly.
People who said they believe in ghosts – 38%. Same number as church goers.
Almost as many people said they believe in Telepathy (mind reading) - 33% and Clarivoyance - 32%.
Coming in somewhat behind: Reincarnation and Astrology – both 25%.
(God is now planning hurricanes and earthquakes and contacting Pat Robertson)
Poll sources: Gallop, ABC, and Harris.

Spock: Captain, my tricorder readings show… nothing… ?
Kirk: Then, it must be… “him”
Bones: *I’ll bet that pointy-eared Vulcan is behind this…*
God: Prepare to beam-up!
But how many atheists believe in ghosts, UFO’s or even pat Robertson?
Credable scientists are starting to come to the realization that there is insurmountable evidence that there may be UFO’s or aliens. But there is so far no evidence for anything besides the basic observation that there are UFO’s that probably are not from earth. Such as, no one can come up with even a scrap of evidence of who they are or what they want, what their motives are, and if they are trying to communicate.
My take on the situation is that they are trying to slowly get us used to the idea that they exist. I do not believe they will flatout communicate with us like show up on TV or talk to us over the radio until we solve a MOUNTAIN of social problems that we as a species need to fix. Otherwise the only way they would come out is if we found them and they were unable to hide from us anymore. I currently only think that would be possible if we accidently found their home planet and sent a probe to it and we found out for ourself that they exist without a doubt.
That may be the absolute best way actually. By the time we found them and got a probe to their planet, we would have probably goten WW3 overwith and the social MOUNTAIN of problems we have would probably just be a hill by then. So I am thinking somewhere around the year 2250. Hopefuly our life spans will increase drasticly soon. Im only 22 so maby I will have a slim chance of seeing it. :P
There are so many stories from so many cultures over such a long period of time that about so many things which can be called paranormal that it really seems strange that science has such a strong negative feeling about them.
Surely, just to look at some of the Hubble telescope pictures of deep space, littered with galaxies, is enough to make anyone seriously doubt that we are the only beings in the universe.
As for ghosts and the like, whyever not? After all, there are still so many things which can’t easily be explained away as simple delusion. After all, we’ve all had strange experiences, haven’t we?
Respectfully, science as a discipline doesn’t approach concepts with feelings, negative or otherwise.
Science requires data and sound logic. So far all valid scientific research done into paranormal phenomena (ESP, telekenisis, ghosts, astral travel, telepathy, astrology, prayer, etc…) has come up with negative results (nothing).
That’s why you won’t hear a lot of scientific thought that is positive towards the paranormal. Often scientists assert the correct position of being agnostic about such things until there is some sort of supporting data.
Most people do experience things that they can’t explain, but it doesn’t follow that they are UFOs or the paranormal. Many times it’s either chance or the person just misunderstood what they saw and there is a rational explaination.
One time a railroad engineer backed his train off it’s tracks because he was convinced another train was coming towards him for a certain head on collision.
The train turned out to be Venus rising just over the oncoming railroad tracks which the engineer misunderstood to be a locomotive headlamp.
