Today’s Bible story is from Numbers 15:32-36.
A man is gathering sticks one day in the wilderness when he is found by some Israelites that are not very happy.
They are not very happy at all.
It’s the Sabbath. They are so incredibly not happy about him gathering sticks on the Sabbath that they decide to give him the death penalty immediately (no Miranda rights, no lawyer, no trial, no deathrow) which at the time involved pelting a person’s body with hard objects until he stops breathing (or at least not too much longer afterwards).
Thou art holy! I ran across mention that the word ‘holy’ is derived from Greek, like about everything else associated with the Bible, meaning the Sun. The Sun was Helios. To be holy means to be sunny.
I don’t know about English, but those old stories were written in Hebrew and the word was qodesh. No relation to Greek.
The Greek word hagios is related to the greek hagnos “pure” and the word thalpo “cherish”. No relation to Sun.
What a lovely , compassionate idea in this storey ! Where do I sign up to this wonderful religion ! ?
